1.For the Church: that she may strengthen weak hands and steady feeble knees, and say to fearful hearts, “Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come”, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.For the nations: that the deserts and wastelands left by war may blossom, and that a highway of holiness may be opened for those who return, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those who are paralysed, and for the friends who carry them: that their faith may find a way through every crowd and every roof to bring them before Jesus, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.For those who ask who can forgive sins: that they may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

1.For the Church: that she may comfort God's people and speak to their heart, and say to the cities, “Behold your God”, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.For rulers: that, through the prayers of Saint Ambrose, who was called from governing a city to shepherd a Church and did not fear to correct an emperor, they may listen to the truth, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

Readings: Gn 3:9-15, 20 · Eph 1:3-6, 11-12 · Lk 1:26-38 (Lectionary 689)

The readings in brief: In the garden the Lord God calls to the man, “Where are you?”; the man and the woman each blame another, and God puts enmity between the serpent and the woman's offspring. Saint Paul praises the Father, who chose us in Christ to be holy and blameless. The angel Gabriel is sent to Nazareth, to a virgin named Mary, who answers: behold the handmaid of the Lord.

1.For the Church: that, like Mary, full of grace, she may be holy and without blame before God in love, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.For the peoples who honour Mary Immaculate as their patroness, and for all nations: that the enmity between good and evil may end in the victory of her Son, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

The readings in brief: Zephaniah tells Jerusalem to sing and shout for joy: the Lord is in her midst and rejoices over her. Saint Paul writes: rejoice in the Lord always; do not be anxious, and the peace of God will guard your hearts. The crowds, the tax collectors and the soldiers ask John what they should do; he tells them to share and to be honest, and points to one mightier than he.

1.For the Church: that she may rejoice in the Lord always, because the Lord is at hand, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.For those who collect taxes and those who bear arms: that they may take no more than is appointed, do violence to no one and accuse no one falsely, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
