1.For the Church: that she may listen to the Son, through whom God has spoken to us in these last days, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.For the nations: that they may hear the first preaching of Jesus, that the kingdom of God is at hand, and turn toward justice and peace, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those who work at sea, in the fields, in factories and in offices: that Christ may pass by and call them where they are, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.For those who must leave home, family or work in order to follow their calling: that they may not regret what they have left, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

1.For the Church: that she may teach with the authority of Christ, and that her words may set people free, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.For those who hold power over others: that they may use it as servants, remembering the One who was crowned with glory because he suffered, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

1.For the Church: that she may go on to the next towns and villages to preach there also, for that is why Christ came, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.For those in authority: that they may free people from every slavery, especially those who live in fear all their lives, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For the sick who are brought to the door at evening: that Jesus may heal them, and that those who are healed may rise and serve, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

Readings: 1 Sm 3:3b-10, 19 · 1 Cor 6:13c-15a, 17-20 · Jn 1:35-42 (Lectionary 65)

The readings in brief: The boy Samuel hears God call him in the night and answers: speak, Lord, your servant is listening. Saint Paul reminds us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. John the Baptist points out the Lamb of God, and two disciples follow Jesus, who says to them: come and see.

Option 1
1.For the Church: that, like Samuel, she may say, “Speak, Lord, your servant is listening”, and let none of his words go unheeded, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.For those who govern: that they may honor the dignity of the human body, and protect all who are bought, sold or used by others, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
