Prayers of the Faithful for Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Readings: Gn 3:9-15 · 2 Cor 4:13—5:1 · Mk 3:20-35 (Lectionary 89)

The readings in brief: After the fall, God calls to the man, where are you? and tells the serpent that the woman's offspring will strike at its head. Saint Paul writes that though the body wears out we are renewed inwardly each day, for what is unseen is eternal. Jesus, accused of acting by the power of Beelzebul, replies that a divided house cannot stand; whoever does God's will is his brother, sister and mother.

Introduction (priest): Gathered as one family in Christ, let us pray to the Father for the Church, for the world and for all who are in need.

Concluding prayer (priest): God of mercy, you never turn away those who hope in you. Receive these prayers and answer them according to your love. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

1.For the Church: that she may be the family of those who do the will of God, where each one is brother, sister and mother to Christ, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.For nations and peoples divided against themselves: that they may be reconciled, since a house divided cannot stand, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those who hide from God out of fear or shame: that they may hear him calling, “Where are you?”, and come out to meet his mercy, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.For those whose bodies are wearing out through age or illness: that they may be renewed inwardly day by day, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.For ourselves: that we may stop blaming one another for our sins and trust that with the Lord there is mercy and plentiful redemption, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For those who are misunderstood by their own families because of their faith.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all the faithful departed, whose earthly tent has been taken down, may have a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

1.For the baptized in every nation, that their work and relationships may bear witness to the hope of the Gospel, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.For countries receiving people displaced by conflict or poverty, that compassion and responsible cooperation may provide safety and a future, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those who lack food or secure housing, that dependable help and just opportunities may restore stability to their lives, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.For our community, that doing God's will may unite us as Christ's family and help us resist division and suspicion, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.For deceased members of our families and parish, especially N., that they may rest in Christ's peace and know the joy of his kingdom, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
