Prayers of the Faithful for the Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Introduction (priest): Gathered as one family in Christ, let us pray to the Father for the Church, for the world and for all who are in need.
Concluding prayer (priest): God of mercy, you never turn away those who hope in you. Receive these prayers and answer them according to your love. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Option 1
1.For the Church: that she may proclaim and practice forgiveness without limit, reflecting the boundless mercy of God, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That civil leaders may seek reconciliation and peace, choosing forgiveness over retribution in resolving conflicts among peoples and nations, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those burdened by inability to forgive—whose unforgiven debt chains them as much as their debtors—that God's grace may loosen those chains, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may receive God's infinite mercy for our own vast debts of sin, and freely extend that same mercy to those who have wronged us, however small their debt, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.That our local community may be a place where forgiveness is freely offered and received, where no one is choked by another's refusal to release old grievances, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For those who carry deep wounds of betrayal or injustice, that God's healing may make forgiveness possible.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all the faithful departed who sought God's forgiveness may now rest in the perfect mercy of His eternal kingdom, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Option 2
1.For Pope Leo XIV and all pastors: that they may lead with mercy, reflecting the heart of God, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That all nations may cultivate cultures of forgiveness and restoration rather than cultures of retribution and revenge, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those who find it impossible to forgive themselves, who are tormented by their own guilt, that the King who cancels impossible debts may set them free, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may honestly ask ourselves whether we have forgiven others as God has forgiven us—and where we have not, humbly return to the source of all mercy, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.For our parish, that it may be a school of forgiveness where the parable of the unforgiving servant is not a cautionary tale about others but a mirror held up to ourselves, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For a deeper participation in the Sacrament of Reconciliation as the place where our enormous debts are cancelled.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all who have died may find in God a King who settles all accounts with mercy, welcoming them into eternal peace, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
