Prayers of the Faithful for Fifth Sunday of Lent

Readings: Jer 31:31-34 · Heb 5:7-9 · Jn 12:20-33 (Lectionary 35)

The readings in brief: Through Jeremiah, God promises a new covenant, written on the heart, in which all will know him and sin will be forgiven. The Letter to the Hebrews shows Jesus praying with loud cries and learning obedience through suffering. Some Greeks ask to see Jesus, and he speaks of the grain of wheat that must die to bear much fruit.

Introduction (priest): The Lord is merciful and slow to anger. With humble hearts, let us bring him our needs and the needs of all.

Concluding prayer (priest): Lord, look kindly on your people in these days of prayer, fasting and charity, and grant what we ask with faith. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

1.For the Church: that she may show Jesus to all who say, as the Greeks said to Philip, that they wish to see him, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.For the peoples of the earth: that Christ, lifted up from the earth, may draw all to himself, and that the ruler of this world may be driven out, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those who suffer and cry out with tears, as Christ did: that they may be heard, and that their obedience may bear fruit, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.For those who are afraid to lose their life, their place or their plans: that they may trust the word about the grain of wheat, which dies and bears much fruit, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.For ourselves: that God may write his law on our hearts, forgive our wrongdoing and remember our sin no more, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For those who will be baptized, confirmed or received into the Church at Easter, two weeks from now.Lord, hear our prayer.
