Prayers of the Faithful for the 32ND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Option 1
1.That the Church may proclaim without hesitation the resurrection of the dead — as Christ taught the Sadducees — and may never allow doubt or modernity to silence the hope that God raises those who have died, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That world leaders may govern with an eye on what endures — on the God who is Lord of the living and the dead — and may build just societies that honour the dignity of every person, mortal and immortal, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For all who are struggling with grief, that they may hear Christ's words to the Sadducees as spoken also to them: the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is not the God of the dead but of the living — and those we mourn are alive to him, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may hold our faith in the resurrection not as an abstract doctrine but as a living hope that shapes the way we live, love, and let go — trusting God who raises the dead, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.For all who have lost loved ones this year: that the conviction of Christ — that God is the God of the living, not the dead — may sustain them and give them confident hope in the reunion that awaits, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For the dying and for all who accompany them, that faith in the resurrection may be their strength and consolation.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all the faithful departed may rest in the life of the God who is God of the living, and rise with all who are worthy of the resurrection, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Option 2
1.For Pope Leo XIV and all who preach and teach the faith, that they may present the resurrection of the dead not as mythology but as the living promise of Christ — who silenced the Sadducees and opened the future of every believer, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That governments and societies may honour the dignity of every human life — including the dying and the elderly — because each person is made for a life that does not end, and every life bears the image of the God of the living, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those who doubt or deny the resurrection, that the witness of Christ — who faced death and passed through it to life — may move them to hope in what reason alone cannot provide, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That our faith may bear fruit in how we love: if those we mourn are alive to God, we can pray for them, serve them, trust God with them — and we can live more freely, knowing that nothing in Christ is wasted or lost, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.For all who are themselves near death — the elderly, the seriously ill, those in final stages — that the assurance of Christ may reach them: they are not going to the God of the dead, but to the God of the living who holds them close, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For all who minister to the bereaved — chaplains, funeral ministers, grief counsellors — that they may speak the hope of resurrection with conviction and tenderness.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all the faithful departed may now know what they believed in faith: that their God is not the God of the dead but of the living, and they are alive in him forever, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Pro Life Option
1.That the Church may root its defence of every human life — from conception to natural death — in the truth Christ declared: every person is made for the life of God, and no life is merely temporary or disposable, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That lawmakers may legislate in the light of the resurrection: if every person is destined for eternal life, then every person — at every stage of existence — deserves the full protection and dignity that this destiny demands, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For all who work to protect the elderly and dying from euthanasia and assisted suicide — that they may be sustained by the truth that God is Lord of the living, and that those who seem least valuable to the world are most precious to him, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That our pro-life witness may be grounded in resurrection faith — knowing that the lives we defend are destined not for annihilation but for the fullness of life with the God who raises the dead, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.For every unborn child and every person at the end of life: that the God who is not God of the dead but of the living may hold them in his eternal care, and that the Church may be their advocate in every earthly hour, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For all who have lost children — the miscarried, the stillborn, the aborted — that the assurance of Christ may reach them: their children are alive to God, who numbers all the living.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all children who died before birth may be alive to the God who created them — the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob, the God not of the dead but of the living — let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
