Prayers of the Faithful for the 3rd Sunday of Advent

Readings: Is 61:1-2a, 10-11 · 1 Thes 5:16-24 · Jn 1:6-8, 19-28

The readings in brief: Isaiah rejoices in the Lord, who sends his anointed to bring good news to the poor. Saint Paul tells us to rejoice always, pray without ceasing and give thanks in everything. John the Baptist declares that he is not the Christ, but a voice sent to bear witness to the light.

Introduction (priest): Brothers and sisters, in this season of waiting let us ask the Father to prepare the world for the coming of his Son.

Concluding prayer (priest): Come, Lord, and do not delay. Answer the prayers of your Church and let your light shine on all who wait for you, who live and reign for ever and ever. Amen.

Option 1

1.For the Church: that she may joyfully proclaim the Gospel to the poor and brokenhearted this Advent season, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That leaders of nations may work for justice, protect the oppressed, and make room for hope among those who suffer, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those who are grieving, discouraged, imprisoned, or poor, that the joy promised by God may reach them through real works of mercy, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may prepare the way of the Lord like John the Baptist, bearing witness to the light with humility and courage, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.That our parish may rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and give thanks in every circumstance as we await Christ's coming, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For all Advent outreach to the poor, lonely, and forgotten.Lord, hear our prayer.

Option 2

1.For Pope Leo XIV and all ministers of the Gospel: that they may bear faithful witness to Christ, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That governments and communities may restore dignity to those who are poor, displaced, or held captive by injustice, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those who find this season heavy rather than joyful, that the God of peace may make them whole, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may not mistake ourselves for the light, but point humbly and clearly to Christ, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.For our local Church, that Gaudete joy may deepen our prayer, mercy, and readiness for the Lord, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For musicians, liturgical ministers, and all who help the parish rejoice in Advent hope.Lord, hear our prayer.
