Here are 6 Different sets of prayers of the faithful specifically for peace, and written following the instructions of the General instructions of the Roman Missal.

Prayers of the Faithful for Peace

The sets of intentions in this post contain two optional intentions, labeled I and II. Intention I addresses a local, topical need for the living, while Intention II is for the deceased, with an option to add names if customary.

OPTION #1:

  1. For the Church, that she may be an unwavering voice for peace and reconciliation in the world. Let us pray to the Lord.
  2. For world leaders and all in authority, that they may have the courage to resolve conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy. Let us pray to the Lord.
  3. That the hearts of all people may be converted to the way of peace, rejecting violence and embracing mutual understanding. Let us pray to the Lord.
  4. For those suffering the effects of war, violence, and civil unrest, that they may know comfort and find paths to lasting peace. Let us pray to the Lord.
  5. For civilians endangered by warfare and military aggression, that they may be kept from harm. Let us pray to the Lord.

I. (For our sick, bereaved, parish project, events, etc., let us pray to the Lord.)

II. For all the members of our community who have died, especially N. Let us pray to the lord

OPTION #2:

  1. For the holy Catholic Church, that through her faithful witness the Gospel of peace may inspire all nations. Let us pray to the Lord.
  2. For leaders of government and industry, that they may have the wisdom to resolve conflicts justly and equitably. Let us pray to the Lord.
  3. That the use of weapons and violence may give way to dialogue and negotiation in resolving disputes between peoples. Let us pray to the Lord.
  4. For those driven from their homes by war and violence, that they may find safe refuge and the promise of a peaceful future. Let us pray to the Lord.
  5. For children around the world who suffer the trauma of violence and war, that they may know God’s love and protection. Let us pray to the Lord.

I. For those who work to build bridges of understanding across cultures and faiths. Let us pray to the Lord.

II. That the Prince of Peace may welcome the souls of those who have died in violence, especially N. Let us pray to the Lord.

OPTION 3#:

  1. For the Church, that she may be a beacon of Christ’s peace in a world too often darkened by conflict. Let us pray to the Lord.
  2. For nations threatened by war and civil strife, that differences may be resolved through patient dialogue. Let us pray to the Lord.
  3. That the world’s youth may be formed in the ways of peace, rejecting the cycle of violence. Let us pray to the Lord.
  4. For families shattered by war, violence and displacement, that they may find hope and lasting peace. Let us pray to the Lord.
  5. For the work of international peacekeeping forces in resolving global conflicts and unrest. Let us pray to the Lord.

I. For those who promote non-violent solutions to conflict and injustice in our communities. Let us pray to the Lord.

II. That those who have died in violent conflicts may find eternal rest in the peace of Christ, especially N. Let us pray to the Lord.

OPTION #4:

  1. For the Church, that her mission of reconciliation may heal divisions and bring peace to the world. Let us pray to the Lord.
  2. For leaders of hostile nations, that the Holy Spirit may open their hearts to the path of peace. Let us pray to the Lord.
  3. That the universal desire for harmony may overcome the ancient seeds of violence between peoples. Let us pray to the Lord.
  4. For civilians endangered by warfare and military aggression, that they may be kept from harm. Let us pray to the Lord.
  5. For missionaries, aid workers and all who show mercy to victims of war and violence. Let us pray to the Lord.

OPTION #5:

  1. For the Church, that her witness may inspire all peoples to pursue the way of nonviolence. Let us pray to the Lord.
  2. For national leaders and all in civil authority, that they may resolve disputes through peaceful negotiation. Let us pray to the Lord.
  3. That the spirit of reconciliation may overcome hatred, enmity and division in troubled regions of the world. Let us pray to the Lord.
  4. For refugees and displaced persons, that they may find safe haven and the opportunity to rebuild their lives. Let us pray to the Lord.
  5. For those suffering the effects of war, violence, and civil unrest, that they may know comfort and find paths to lasting peace. Let us pray to the Lord.
