Here are 5 Different sets of prayers of the faithful specifically for our country, and written following the instructions of the General instructions of the Roman Missal.

Prayers of the Faithful for Our Country

The sets of intentions in this post contain two optional intentions, labeled I and II. Intention I addresses a local, topical need for the living, while Intention II is for the deceased, with an option to add names if customary.

OPTION #1

  1. For the holy Catholic Church, that she may continue to proclaim the Gospel of peace and be a voice for the marginalized, Let us pray to the Lord.
  2. For our national and local leaders, that they may be guided by wisdom and a genuine concern for the common good, Let us pray to the Lord.
  3. For a renewed commitment to unity, justice and reconciliation among all citizens of our nation, Let us pray to the Lord.
  4. For those who serve in our military and protect our nation, that they may be shielded from harm, Let us pray to the Lord.

I. For those impacted by economic hardship or lack of opportunity in our communities, Let us pray to the Lord.

II. That the Son of Man may grant eternal rest to those who have died, especially N, Let us pray to the Lord.

OPTION #2

  1. For the Church, that she may inspire all nations to work for lasting peace and human solidarity, Let us pray to the Lord.
  2. For our national and civic leaders, that they may uphold the dignity of every person and promote the common good, Let us pray to the Lord.
  3. That divisions in our country may be healed and all people united in respect for one another, Let us pray to the Lord.
  4. For an end to violence, discrimination and injustice that threaten the fabric of our society, Let us pray to the Lord.

I. For our sick, bereaved, and all those involved in special projects or events, let us pray to the Lord.

II. That the Son of Man may welcome into his kingdom all who have died, especially N, Let us pray to the Lord.

OPTION #3

  1. For the holy Catholic Church, that she may be a steadfast witness to the Gospel and a minister of Christ’s mercy and peace, Let us pray to the Lord.
  2. For our president and all elected officials, that they may lead with justice, integrity and a genuine concern for all citizens, Let us pray to the Lord.
  3. That the people of our nation may work together to build a society of respect, solidarity and equal opportunity for all, Let us pray to the Lord.
  4. For an end to racism, discrimination and all forms of injustice that divide our communities, Let us pray to the Lord.

II. That the Son of Man may embrace with mercy those who have died, especially N, Let us pray to the Lord.

OPTION #4

  1. For the Church, that she may inspire all nations to uphold the dignity of every human life, Let us pray to the Lord.
  2. For our civic leaders and public servants, that they may faithfully serve the people and work for the common good, Let us pray to the Lord.
  3. That our nation may be a land of opportunity where the rights of all are respected and protected, Let us pray to the Lord.
  4. For greater understanding and collaboration among all peoples, cultures and faiths in our country, Let us pray to the Lord.

II. That the Son of Man may welcome into eternal life those who have died, especially N, Let us pray to the Lord.

OPTION #5

  1. For the Church, that she may tirelessly work to build a civilization of love and human flourishing, Let us pray to the Lord.
  2. For our national and local leaders, that they may govern with wisdom, justice and compassion, Let us pray to the Lord.
  3. That peace, justice and respect for human life may take root in the hearts of all people in our nation, Let us pray to the Lord.
  4. For protection of religious freedom and the ability to live our faith openly in our communities, Let us pray to the Lord.
