Understanding General Intercessions for Daily Mass

General intercessions, also known as the "Prayer of the Faithful" or "Universal Prayer," are an essential part of the Catholic Mass where the congregation joins together to pray for the needs of the Church and the world. These intercessions are called "general" because they address universal concerns that affect all Catholics and humanity as a whole.

General Intercessions for Wednesday of the Twenty-Second Week in Ordinary Time

Option 1

1.That the Church may always be sent outward—never clinging to familiar places, but going with Christ to the other towns where the Good News must also be proclaimed, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That civil leaders may care for the feverish—those burdened by poverty, disease, and injustice—with the urgency and tenderness of the God who heals each person He encounters, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For all who are sick, that Jesus—who laid hands on each one individually at sunset—may touch each of them with His healing mercy, letting no one feel overlooked or forgotten, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may follow Christ's example of withdrawing to pray at daybreak, so that our service to others may flow from a deep encounter with the Father, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.That our local community may be sent outward in mission, never hoarding God's grace but carrying it to every corner where it is needed most, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For all who are seriously ill and for those who care for them with love and dedication.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all the faithful departed may now rest in the fullness of God's eternal healing and life, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

Option 2

1.For Pope Leo XIV and all pastors, that they may follow Christ's compulsion: 'I must proclaim the good news to the other towns also, because for this purpose I was sent,' let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That all governments may prioritize the health and wellbeing of their citizens, recognizing that true healing of society comes from serving the most vulnerable, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those the world has given up on—the chronically ill, the forgotten, the marginalized—that Christ, who healed all brought to Him, may lay His hands on each of them, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may not prevent Christ from moving freely in our lives, but let Him be Lord of our direction, even when He calls us beyond our comfort, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.For our parish, that it may rise early to pray and then go out in mission, never keeping the Lord's grace confined within its own walls, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For all medical professionals, nurses, and caregivers who serve the sick with Christ's own compassion.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all who have died may be received by the Son of God, who came to heal and to save, into His kingdom of wholeness and peace, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

Pro Life Option

1.That the Church may bring Christ's healing to every wound, proclaiming the Good News of God's mercy to all who are scarred by a culture that treats the unborn as disposable, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That civil authorities may promote genuine healing rather than harm, supporting women and children rather than funding the destruction of innocent life, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For women experiencing post-abortion grief, that the Son of God who laid His hands on each person brought to Him may touch each of them and restore their peace and dignity, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may join Christ's mission to the 'other towns'—boldly proclaiming the Good News of God's love for every life to cultures that have accepted abortion as a solution, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.For all children whose lives are threatened before birth, that God, who commands even demons to be silent, may defend them and bring them safely into a world of love, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For all who minister healing and hope to women recovering from the trauma of abortion.Lord, hear our prayer.
That all children lost before birth may rest in the arms of the Son of God who laid hands on each with love, and their mothers find healing in His mercy, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
