Understanding General Intercessions for Daily Mass

General intercessions, also known as the "Prayer of the Faithful" or "Universal Prayer," are an essential part of the Catholic Mass where the congregation joins together to pray for the needs of the Church and the world. These intercessions are called "general" because they address universal concerns that affect all Catholics and humanity as a whole.

General Intercessions for THE TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD

Option 1

1.That the Church may always lead her children up the mountain of prayer, where — in silence and apart from the noise of the world — the face of Christ shines like the sun and His garments become dazzling white, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That leaders of nations may listen to the voice from the cloud: 'This is my beloved Son; listen to him' — and find in His teaching the wisdom that no earthly counsel can supply, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those who are afraid or have fallen face-down under the weight of life's burdens, that they may hear Christ's touch and His word: 'Rise, and do not be afraid', let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may be a people of the mountain — willing to go apart with Jesus in prayer and to come down transformed, carrying the vision of His glory into the valley of daily life, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.For our parish, that our worship may be a foretaste of the Transfiguration — an encounter with the living God in whose presence we fall silent, then rise renewed for mission, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For a spirit of prayer that seeks the mountain-top encounter with Christ and returns transformed to serve others.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all the faithful departed may see the face of Christ shining as the sun in the fullness of His eternal glory, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

Option 2

1.For Pope Leo XIV and all bishops, that they may lead the Church to the mountain of prayer where Christ is revealed — and then, like Peter, James, and John, come down to serve the waiting world, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That nations may open their ears to the voice that speaks from the cloud: 'Listen to him' — for Christ alone speaks the words of eternal life that give meaning to every human story, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those whose faith has grown dim, that the Transfiguration may remind them that Moses and Elijah — the whole sweep of salvation history — point to Christ, in whom all hope is fulfilled, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may treasure the command of the Father: 'Listen to him' — making the words of Jesus the rule of our life, our comfort in suffering, and our guide in every decision, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.For our community, that we may be transfigured little by little into Christ's likeness — from glory to glory — as we encounter Him in prayer, Scripture, and the Eucharist, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For the grace to listen to Christ — his words, his silence, his cross — as the Father commands.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all who have died may be transfigured in the glory of the resurrection, sharing the radiance of Christ whom they loved on earth, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

Variations if Feast is not celebrated

Option 1

1.That the Church may always proclaim with Peter: 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God' — and build her life on this rock of confession, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That leaders of nations may ask themselves who they say Jesus is, and allow the answer to shape their service of their people and their conscience, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those who are searching for the identity of Jesus — in doubt or inquiry — that the Father may reveal to them what flesh and blood cannot teach, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may stand with Peter in his great confession, making it our own: 'You are the Christ' — and let that truth be the unshakeable foundation of our whole life, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.For our parish, that we may be a community built on the rock of Peter's faith, against which the gates of hell shall not prevail, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For a renewal of personal faith in Jesus as Christ and Son of the living God.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all the faithful departed who confessed Christ on earth may now rejoice in His eternal presence, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

Option 2

1.For Pope Leo XIV, successor of Peter on whom Christ built His Church, that he may hear again today: 'Blessed are you' — and lead with the courage and humility of that great apostle, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That nations may recognize in Christ not merely a teacher or prophet but the Son of the living God — and find in Him the foundation no politics or ideology can replace, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For all who struggle with doubt about who Jesus is, that the Father may open their minds and hearts to receive the revelation that transforms confusion into living faith, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may hear Christ's question today — 'Who do you say that I am?' — and answer it not just with our lips but with our lives, our priorities, and our willingness to carry the cross, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.For our community, that we may hand on the faith of Peter intact to the next generation — the same Christ, the same confession, the same Church built on rock, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For the Church's unity around Peter's successor, that she may stand firm on the rock of apostolic faith.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all who have died may enter the kingdom whose gates are held open by the keys entrusted to Peter, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
