Understanding General Intercessions for Daily Mass

General intercessions, also known as the "Prayer of the Faithful" or "Universal Prayer," are an essential part of the Catholic Mass where the congregation joins together to pray for the needs of the Church and the world. These intercessions are called "general" because they address universal concerns that affect all Catholics and humanity as a whole.

General Intercessions for Wednesday, 13th Week in Ordinary Time

Option 1

1.That the Church may always exercise the authority Christ gave to the Twelve — over unclean spirits, disease, and every affliction — in His name and for His glory, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That world leaders may go to the lost sheep of their nations — the forgotten, the marginalised, the poor — and proclaim by their actions: the kingdom is at hand for you too, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For all who are sent on mission — priests, deacons, catechists, missionaries — that they may go with Christ's authority, knowing He who sent them will sustain them, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may hear our own names as the Twelve heard theirs: called, sent, and given authority — and may respond to whatever mission Christ lays before us today, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.That our local community may be a community that proclaims by word and deed: the kingdom of heaven is at hand — in every act of healing, welcome, and justice it performs, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For our sick, bereaved, etc., special projects or events.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all the faithful departed who were sent and went may now enter the kingdom they proclaimed, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

Option 2

1.For Pope Leo XIV and all successors of the Apostles, that they may exercise with fidelity and courage the authority Christ entrusted to the Twelve — to heal, to free, and to proclaim, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That all peoples, especially those who feel themselves lost sheep, may hear the proclamation sent to them: the kingdom of heaven is at hand — and may respond with faith, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those suffering from diseases of body or spirit, that the authority Christ gave His Church to heal may reach them through prayer, the sacraments, and the ministry of the faithful, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may go — not wait to be approached — carrying the kingdom to the lost, the sick, the bound, knowing Christ has already given us all the authority we need, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.For our parish, that it may be apostolic in the truest sense: sent, commissioned, and empowered by Christ to announce that the kingdom is not far off but already at hand, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For all who are sent in the Church's name — missionaries, chaplains, lay evangelists — that they may go with courage and return with joy.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all who have died may enter the kingdom they spent their lives announcing as near, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

Pro Life Option

1.That the Church may use the authority Christ gives her to drive out the spirit of death that surrounds abortion, and proclaim with confidence: the kingdom — where every life is welcome — is at hand, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That lawmakers may be sent like the Twelve to the lost sheep among us — the most vulnerable unborn — carrying the authority of truth and the power of just law to protect them, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For mothers who feel themselves lost sheep without a shepherd, that the Church may go to them first, proclaiming by her presence: the kingdom — which has room for you and your child — is at hand, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That those who work to heal the wounds of abortion may exercise the commission of the Twelve — to cure, to raise, to cleanse — bringing Christ's restoring power to broken lives, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.That our local community may be sent and going — not merely praying from a distance — carrying to every vulnerable family the proclamation that the kingdom of life and love is here, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For all who are commissioned in the Church's mission for life — from sidewalk counsellors to post-abortion healing ministers.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all children who died before birth may be received into the kingdom that was proclaimed near and is now fully at hand, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
