Understanding General Intercessions for Daily Mass

General intercessions, also known as the "Prayer of the Faithful" or "Universal Prayer," are an essential part of the Catholic Mass where the congregation joins together to pray for the needs of the Church and the world. These intercessions are called "general" because they address universal concerns that affect all Catholics and humanity as a whole.

General Intercessions for Thursday in the 12th Week in Ordinary Time

Option 1

1.That the Church may never rest on words alone, but may do the will of the Father in heaven — for not all who say 'Lord, Lord' will enter the kingdom, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That world leaders may build their policies on the solid rock of truth and justice, not on the shifting sands of expediency or popular approval, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those whose faith is shaken by life's storms, that they may find that a house built on Christ's word will stand when floods and wind come against it, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may be wise builders who hear Christ's words and act on them, knowing that a faith not lived is a house built on sand, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.That our local community may hear the word of God with the astonishment of the crowd — for He speaks with authority — and respond with wholehearted obedience, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For our sick, bereaved, etc., special projects or events.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all the faithful departed who built their lives on Christ's word may now dwell securely in His eternal kingdom, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

Option 2

1.For Pope Leo XIV, that he may teach with the authority of the Gospel — not merely as a scribe — so that the faithful hear in him the voice of the One who speaks with power, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That all peoples may recognise that it is not those who cry 'Lord, Lord' but those who do the Father's will who inherit the kingdom of heaven, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those who profess faith but struggle to live it, that they may be moved by the authority of Christ's word to align their lives more fully with the Father's will, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may build every decision, relationship, and ambition on the rock of Christ's teaching, so that no storm of life can wash it away, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.For our parish, that it may be astonished anew by the authority of Christ's word and moved not merely to admire His teaching but to obey it wholeheartedly, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For a deeper commitment to living out the Gospel — not merely hearing but doing the Father's will.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all who have died may find their eternal dwelling in the house built on rock — Christ Himself — where no flood can reach, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

Pro Life Option

1.That the Church may do the Father's will and not merely speak it — backing her defence of unborn life with concrete care for mothers, families, and children in need, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That lawmakers may build legislation on the rock of human dignity rather than the shifting sands of political convenience, protecting every life from conception, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For mothers in crisis who feel their world is collapsing around them, that they may find in our community a house built on rock — solid, welcoming, and unshaken by the storm, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That those who advocate for the unborn may be known not only by what they say but by what they do — practical love and support that speaks louder than words, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.That our local community may build its witness to life on the solid rock of the Father's will, so that when storms of opposition come, it stands firm and unafraid, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For all who offer practical support — housing, counselling, material aid — to families building their lives on hope.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all children who died before birth may rest secure on the rock that no storm can move — Christ, in whose hands every life is held, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
