Understanding General Intercessions for Daily Mass

General intercessions, also known as the "Prayer of the Faithful" or "Universal Prayer," are an essential part of the Catholic Mass where the congregation joins together to pray for the needs of the Church and the world. These intercessions are called "general" because they address universal concerns that affect all Catholics and humanity as a whole.

General Intercessions for THE VISITATION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

Option 1

1.For the Church, that she may proclaim with joy the mystery at the heart of our faith: God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that all who believe may not perish but have eternal life, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.For world leaders, that they may govern in the light of God's merciful love revealed in the Trinity — slow to anger, rich in kindness — and care for every human being, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For all who feel condemned or unloved, that they may hear Christ's words today: 'God did not send the Son to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him,' let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may live as children of the Father, redeemed by the Son, and guided by the Holy Spirit — drawing daily on the grace, love, and fellowship of the Blessed Trinity, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.For the faithful departed, that they who believed in the Son may have the eternal life he promised, and behold the Trinity face to face forever, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For those preparing for or recently received into the Church through Baptism in the Trinitarian name, that they may grow in Trinitarian faith.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all who have died in the faith of the Church may share in the eternal life given by the Father through the Son in the Holy Spirit, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

Option 2

1.For Pope Leo XIV and all who preach and teach, that they may hand on the mystery of the Trinity not as abstract doctrine but as the living source of salvation: the God who so loved the world, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That all humanity may come to know and believe in the name of the only Son of God — in whom alone is salvation and freedom from condemnation, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those living in spiritual darkness, that the light of the Trinity — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — may dawn in their hearts and lead them from death to life, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may truly receive the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, allowing the Trinity to dwell and act in us, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.For our parish, that our worship today may be a true adoration of the one God in three Persons, and that we may go forth bearing the Trinitarian name to all peoples, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For those who struggle to believe in the Trinity, that they may be drawn by love rather than conquered by argument.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all the faithful departed may behold the Blessed Trinity in eternal light and love, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

Variations if Feast is not celebrated

Option 1

1.For the Church sent to baptize all nations in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, that she may fulfill her Trinitarian mission with renewed zeal and fidelity, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.For all governments and leaders, that the merciful God who revealed himself to Moses — gracious, slow to anger, rich in kindness — may move their hearts to govern with those same qualities, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For all who do not yet know the love of the Triune God, that missionaries and witnesses may reach them with the joy of the Gospel, so that all may believe and have life, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may carry the Trinitarian name we bear in Baptism into every moment of our lives — living as sons and daughters of the Father, disciples of the Son, temples of the Spirit, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.For all who have died in the faith of the Church, that the Son who came not to condemn but to save may present them to the Father in the love of the Spirit, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For families, that their life together may mirror the communion of love of the Blessed Trinity.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all our beloved dead may enter the eternal embrace of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

Option 2

1.For Pope Leo XIV and all teachers of the faith, that they may proclaim the Trinity not as a puzzle to solve but as a God to love — one who gave his only Son so the world might be saved, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That nations divided by hatred, fear, and injustice may be transformed by the love of the God who is himself a communion of persons, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those burdened by shame or the weight of past sin, that they may know the Father's love is infinite, the Son's redemption is complete, and the Spirit's grace is always available, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That our praise today — 'Blessed are you, O Lord, in the firmament of heaven' — may rise as one voice to the Trinity from every corner of the earth, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.For our parish, that celebrating the Most Holy Trinity may deepen our unity with one another, drawn together by the God who is himself eternal communion, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For those who are estranged from the faith, that the love of God made known in Christ may draw them home.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all the faithful departed may be welcomed into the eternal life that flows from the Father, through the Son, in the Holy Spirit, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
