Understanding General Intercessions for Daily Mass

General intercessions, also known as the "Prayer of the Faithful" or "Universal Prayer," are an essential part of the Catholic Mass where the congregation joins together to pray for the needs of the Church and the world. These intercessions are called "general" because they address universal concerns that affect all Catholics and humanity as a whole.

General Intercessions for Wednesday of the 5th Week of Easter

Option 1

1.That the Church may draw her life and mission from remaining in the love of Christ, who keeps no greater commandment than the love his Father has shown him, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That world leaders may be inspired by the love of God—which flows from Father to Son to all humanity—to govern with justice, mercy, and care for the least, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those who feel unloved or cut off, that they may hear Christ's Easter word: 'As the Father loves me, so I also love you'—and receive that love as addressed to them personally, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may keep Christ's commandments not as a burden but as the pathway into his joy—the joy he desires to pour into us until it overflows and becomes complete, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.That our parish may be a community visibly filled with the joy of Christ—a joy rooted not in circumstances but in remaining in the love that flows from the Father through the Son to us, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For those who are joyless or spiritually dry, that Christ's own joy may find its way into their hearts.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all the faithful departed may now dwell in the love in which the Father loves the Son, and share in the joy that is complete and eternal, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

Option 2

1.For Pope Leo XIV, that he may remain in the love of Christ and keep his commandments with joy, leading the Church toward the fullness of joy Christ promises, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That all who call themselves Christians may make visible to the world the chain of love—Father to Son to believer to neighbor—a love that transforms every relationship it enters, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those who struggle to keep Christ's commandments, that the promise of his joy and love may renew their desire to live for Christ alone, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may understand Christian joy not as a feeling but as a consequence of remaining in Christ's love, and so never stop seeking that love even in seasons of dryness, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.For our local church, that our fidelity to the commandments of Christ—especially to love one another—may be the source of a visible, irresistible joy that draws others to the faith, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For all who are preparing for marriage, that their love may be rooted in the love with which Christ loves the Church.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all who have died in Christ may enter into the complete joy he promised: the joy of the Father's own love given without measure, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

Pro Life Option

1.That the Church may overflow with the joy of Christ—the joy that comes from remaining in his love—and proclaim that joy as the alternative to the fear that drives away human life, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That lawmakers may remain in the love revealed in Christ's commandments, and protect unborn children as children loved by the Father before they were born, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For pregnant women in crisis who have never heard 'As the Father loves me, so I also love you' spoken to them, that they may receive that love through the Church's care and see their child through its light, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may offer women and families in crisis not fear and judgment but the complete joy of Christ—practical, faithful love that reflects the Father's love poured out in the Son, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.That our parish may be a community of complete joy—where every life is welcomed, every mother is loved, and the Father's love for every child is made visible in our hands and hearts, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For those who feel unloved and alone in their pregnancy, that they may receive the love of Christ through the care of this community.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all children lost before birth may dwell in the complete joy of the Father's love, which existed for them before they were knit in the womb, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
