Understanding General Intercessions for Daily Mass

General intercessions, also known as the "Prayer of the Faithful" or "Universal Prayer," are an essential part of the Catholic Mass where the congregation joins together to pray for the needs of the Church and the world. These intercessions are called "general" because they address universal concerns that affect all Catholics and humanity as a whole.

General Intercessions for Tuesday of the 5th Week of Easter

Option 1

1.That the Church, drawing life from Christ the true vine, may bear abundant fruit in every land—the fruit of holiness, service, and witness to the resurrection, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That world leaders may recognize that without the justice and truth which come from God, their efforts will wither and die, and so seek to remain connected to the source of all good, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those who feel spiritually dry, cut off, or withered, that they may be grafted back into Christ the true vine through word, sacrament, and a return to prayer, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may embrace the Father's pruning with trust—understanding that he cuts away what does not bear fruit so that we may become more fruitful disciples of his Son, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.That our parish, remaining in Christ and letting his words remain in us, may bear the abundant fruit by which the Father is glorified and the world sees Easter faith alive, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For spiritual growth and deeper rootedness in Christ among all our parish family this Eastertide.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all the faithful departed who remained in the vine of Christ may now bear eternal fruit in the vineyard of heaven, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

Option 2

1.For Pope Leo XIV, that he may remain in Christ the vine so that the Church, through him, may bear the fruit of unity, truth, and love that glorifies the Father, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That all Christian communities may remember 'without me you can do nothing'—and so approach every challenge and mission in prayer, dependence, and trust in the risen Lord, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those who feel they have nothing to offer—the broken, the weary, the seemingly unfruitful—that Christ the vine may flow through them and produce fruit they cannot yet imagine, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may stay close to Christ in prayer, the sacraments, and scripture, knowing that a branch cut from the vine withers, but one that abides in him bears fruit beyond its own capacity, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.For our local church, that our communal prayer, worship, and service may be the evidence that we remain in Christ—bearing the fruit that proves we are truly his disciples, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For those who have drifted from the practice of faith, that they may be drawn back to the vine that gives life.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all who have died in Christ may dwell forever in the vine of eternal life, bearing the fruit of glory in the presence of the Father, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

Pro Life Option

1.That the Church, remaining in Christ the true vine, may bear the fruit of courage—speaking for the unborn who cannot speak, and defending every life he created and died to redeem, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That lawmakers may let the word of Christ remain in them: every human life is willed and loved by the Father who tends the vine, and must be protected from the moment it takes root, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For mothers in difficult pregnancies who feel cut off and alone, that they may be grafted into the love of the Christian community and find in us the living branches of a vine that does not abandon them, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may bear the fruit the Father seeks—practical love for women and children in crisis—rather than words that wither for lack of concrete action, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.That our parish, remaining in Christ, may be a community where the culture of life bears visible fruit: families supported, mothers welcomed, children cherished, and no one left to face their fear alone, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For all who serve in pregnancy support, that they may remain in Christ the vine and bear the fruit of patient, transforming love.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all unborn children lost before birth may abide forever in Christ the vine, bearing the eternal fruit of joy in the Father's kingdom, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
