Understanding General Intercessions for Daily Mass

General intercessions, also known as the "Prayer of the Faithful" or "Universal Prayer," are an essential part of the Catholic Mass where the congregation joins together to pray for the needs of the Church and the world. These intercessions are called "general" because they address universal concerns that affect all Catholics and humanity as a whole.

General Intercessions for Saturday of the 3rd Week of Easter

Option 1

1.For the Church, that she may be the place where the Good Shepherd's voice is heard clearly — where all who enter find not an institution but a Shepherd who knows them, calls them by name, and gives eternal life, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That world leaders may govern as shepherds accountable to the One who holds every person in His hand — caring for the flock entrusted to them with the same passion the Good Shepherd shows, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For all those discerning a call to priesthood or religious life on this World Day of Prayer for Vocations, that they may hear the Good Shepherd's voice with unmistakeable clarity and find the courage to follow, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may practice listening for the Shepherd's voice amid the many voices competing for our attention — learning in this Easter season to distinguish the one that leads to life, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.That our parish may be a community of active prayer for vocations — encouraging young people, making room for discernment, and celebrating the shepherds God sends to his flock, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For our sick, bereaved, and all who have asked for our prayers.Lord, hear our prayer.
For N. and all the faithful departed, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

Option 2

1.For the Church, that the Easter promise of today's Gospel may be her unshakeable foundation: no one can take them out of my hand — and that she may proclaim this security to all who live in fear of being lost, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That those who exercise power over others may be judged by the Good Shepherd's standard — do they hold the vulnerable securely or do they snatch them from safety? — let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those who believe they have wandered too far to be gathered back — who feel beyond the reach of any shepherd — that the Easter word may find them: no one can snatch you from the Father's hand, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may rest in the Easter security Christ offers: I give them eternal life and they shall never perish — and let that certainty free us from anxiety and fill us with the courage to follow, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.That our parish may intercede for the great multitude of Revelation — the people from every nation, tribe, and tongue — and see our local mission as part of that vast Easter gathering the Good Shepherd is drawing home, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For a renewed confidence in the Good Shepherd who holds us and will never let us go.Lord, hear our prayer.
For N. and all the faithful departed, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
