Understanding General Intercessions for Daily Mass

General intercessions, also known as the "Prayer of the Faithful" or "Universal Prayer," are an essential part of the Catholic Mass where the congregation joins together to pray for the needs of the Church and the world. These intercessions are called "general" because they address universal concerns that affect all Catholics and humanity as a whole.

General Intercessions for SAINT MARK, EVANGELIST

Option 1

1.For the Church, that in the spirit of Saint Mark she may proclaim the Gospel with his characteristic urgency — immediately, directly, without decoration — trusting that the Lord will work with those He sends, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That world leaders may hear the Easter Gospel proclaimed to every creature and understand that no human authority stands beyond its reach or its claim, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For catechists, evangelists, and all who carry on Saint Mark's work today, that they may know the Lord is working with them even when results are invisible and the road is long, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may inherit the lion's courage of Mark — bold, direct, unashamed — speaking the Easter faith without apology in every corner of our daily lives, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.That our parish may be sent from this Eucharist as Mark was sent from Antioch — commissioned, courageous, and sustained by the working of the Risen Lord, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For our sick, bereaved, and all who have asked for our prayers.Lord, hear our prayer.
For N. and all the faithful departed, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

Option 2

1.For the Church, that the accompanying signs Mark records — the sick healed, the captive freed, good news proclaimed to the poor — may mark her mission in every generation as they marked the first disciples, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That those in civil authority may reflect that the Gospel is proclaimed to every creature — that no person, no nation, and no structure of power stands outside the loving claim of the Risen Christ, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For the Church in Egypt and Africa, which traces its founding to Saint Mark, that she may be sustained in faith and courage through every difficulty she faces today, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may read the Gospel of Mark this Easter season — its urgency, its vivid detail, its unvarnished Christ — and let its energy reshape the pace and directness of our discipleship, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.That our parish may be a community where the Lord works with us — not merely a gathering of our own efforts — so that what we do together bears fruit we could not produce alone, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For all missionaries and evangelists, that Saint Mark may intercede for their work.Lord, hear our prayer.
For N. and all the faithful departed, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
