Understanding General Intercessions for Daily Mass

General intercessions, also known as the "Prayer of the Faithful" or "Universal Prayer," are an essential part of the Catholic Mass where the congregation joins together to pray for the needs of the Church and the world. These intercessions are called "general" because they address universal concerns that affect all Catholics and humanity as a whole.

General Intercessions for 3RD SUNDAY OF EASTER

Option 1

1.For the Church, that the scene of Peter's threefold restoration may be her constant comfort — that Christ does not sideline those who have denied Him but commissions them to greater service, saying: feed my lambs, feed my sheep, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That world leaders may ask themselves with Peter's honesty: do I truly love those I serve more than my own position? — and let that answer govern every decision they face this week, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those who believe their past failures have disqualified them from God's use, that the Risen Christ may ask them what He asked Peter — do you love me? — and receive the same answer: Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may answer Christ's question today not with a performance of devotion but with the truth of where we actually are — and trust that He will work with whatever we honestly offer, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.That our parish may take seriously the Easter commission: feed my lambs, feed my sheep — caring actively for those young in faith, those who wander, and those too weak to find their own way back, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For our sick, bereaved, and all who have asked for our prayers.Lord, hear our prayer.
For N. and all the faithful departed, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

Option 2

1.For the Church, that the vision of all creation worshipping the slain and risen Lamb may never dim — and that her worship may overflow from a community that has truly seen what John saw in the book of Revelation, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That those who govern may act with the courage of the apostles who declared: we must obey God rather than men — letting conscience rather than pressure determine what they permit and what they refuse, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those whose faith has been tested and found wanting, that this Easter season may be their moment of restoration — hearing not accusation but the question: do you love me? — and finding the courage to say yes again, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may be willing to follow the Risen Christ where we would not choose to go — stretching out our hands, accepting the costs of discipleship — knowing He goes before us, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.That our parish may be known in our neighbourhood as a community that feeds the lambs — the fragile, the newly baptised, the doubting, the poor — with the patience of the shepherd who knows every sheep by name, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For a spirit of Easter courage and perseverance in following the Risen Christ.Lord, hear our prayer.
For N. and all the faithful departed, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
