Saturday Morning Prayer: A Catholic Prayer with Mary

Catholic tradition dedicates Saturday to the Blessed Virgin Mary: on the Saturday after Good Friday, while the disciples hid in fear, she alone kept her faith in her Son’s promise. A Saturday morning prayer asks her to accompany our day of rest, family and errands. Here is a Saturday morning prayer, a short version, a verse for the morning and Saturday’s traditional devotion.

A Saturday morning prayer

Written for this page:

Holy Mary, Mother of God and my Mother, good morning.
I give you this Saturday: my rest, my family, the work still to be done.
You said yes to God without knowing everything: help me to trust him today.
Teach me to listen as you listened and to love as you loved.
Watch over my home, my children and all those who are far from God,
and bring us all closer to your Son Jesus. Amen.

A short Saturday morning prayer

For mornings when there is no time:

Mary, my Mother, I give you this day; keep me close to Jesus. Amen.

A verse for Saturday morning

Luke 1:38, Douay-Rheims Bible:

And Mary said: Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it done to me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

Mary’s yes to the angel Gabriel is the model of every Christian morning: “be it done to me according to thy word.”

Saturday’s devotion: the Blessed Virgin Mary

Saturday is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

A five-minute Saturday morning routine

  1. Wake up with God: before reaching for your phone, make the Sign of the Cross and say “Good morning, Lord.”
  2. Offer the day: pray the Morning Offering or the Saturday prayer above.
  3. Read the verse for Saturday slowly, twice, and keep one phrase for the day.
  4. Pray one decade of the Rosary with the first of the Joyful Mysteries.
  5. Name your intention: on Saturdays many Catholics pray especially for mothers, families, and those who are far from God.

Five minutes is enough; what matters is beginning the day with God every day.
