THE NATIVITY OF SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST

SolemnityLiturgical Color: White

Prayers of the Faithful for THE NATIVITY OF SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST

Option 1
1.That the Church, like Elizabeth and Zechariah rejoicing at John's birth, may always recognise the miraculous gift of new life and give thanks for God's faithfulness, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
2.That world leaders, hearing the name John — God is gracious — may govern by the same grace, choosing policies that protect and welcome the most vulnerable, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For parents who await a child with fear or uncertainty, that they may be strengthened by the story of Elizabeth and Zechariah, who received more than they dared hope, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may, like Zechariah, open our mouths to bless God for every gift of life He places before us, proclaiming His praise to all who will hear, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.That our local community may wonder at the works of God in its midst and ask with joy: what then will this child be — for the hand of the Lord is with him, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For our sick, bereaved, etc., special projects or events.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all the faithful departed who rejoiced in God's gifts may now join John and all the saints in their eternal song of praise, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.

2.That all peoples may recognise that every birth is a sign of God's gracious favour, and that every child is a word spoken by God into human history, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
3.For those whose faith has grown silent like Zechariah's, that the birth of new hope may loosen their tongues and fill their hearts with praise of God's mercy, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
4.That we may name our children for the saints and raise them, as John was raised, to grow strong in spirit and to know the Lord from their earliest years, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
5.For our parish, that it may see itself as a community from whose midst God calls His servants — and may it always ask with wonder: what will this child be? let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
Optional:For all who are expecting a child, and for those who accompany them in joy and support.Lord, hear our prayer.
That N. and all who have died may enter the eternal joy prepared for those, like John, in whom the hand of the Lord was at work, let us pray to the Lord.Lord, hear our prayer.
