Prayers of the Faithful for Trinity Sunday (5 Sets, Years A, B and C)

On the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity the Church adores the one God who has revealed himself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Below are five complete sets of Prayers of the Faithful for Trinity Sunday (May 23, 2027): one for each year of the Sunday cycle, one that echoes the family as an image of the communion of the Trinity, and one for children. Each set follows the order the Church gives for the Universal Prayer, and many intentions are addressed through the Son, in the Spirit, to the Father.

Response: Lord, hear our prayer.

How to use these intercessions

The priest introduces the Universal Prayer and concludes it; a deacon, cantor or reader announces the intentions; the people respond (GIRM 69–71). The usual order is: the needs of the Church, public authorities and the salvation of the world, those burdened by any kind of difficulty, and the local community.

  • 2027 is Year B (Gospel: Matthew 28:16–20, “baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost”). Use Set 1.
  • Year C (Gospel: John 16:12–15) comes in 2028 (June 11). Use Set 2.
  • Year A (Gospel: John 3:16–18, “God so loved the world”) comes in 2029. Use Set 3.

Set 1: Year B, “Go and teach all nations” (2027)

Priest: Brothers and sisters, we were baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. With confidence, let us bring our prayers to the God who is love.

  1. For the Church, sent to make disciples of all nations, that she may proclaim the Gospel with joy and baptize in the name of the Holy Trinity, let us pray to the Lord.
  2. For all who will be baptized this year, children and adults, and for their parents and godparents, that they may live as sons and daughters of God, let us pray to the Lord.
  3. For the leaders of nations, that they may respect the dignity of every person created in the image of God, let us pray to the Lord.
  4. For those who feel far from God, that the Spirit of adoption may teach them to call God “Father,” let us pray to the Lord.
  5. For our parish community, that we may grow in the unity and love that come from the Trinity, let us pray to the Lord.
  6. For all who have died marked with the sign of faith, that they may see God face to face, let us pray to the Lord.

Priest: Father, you sent your Son to save us and your Spirit to make us holy. Hear the prayers of your children, and keep us faithful to our baptism until we praise you for ever in heaven. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Set 2: Year C, “The Spirit of truth will guide you”

Priest: Jesus promised that the Spirit of truth would guide us into all truth. Let us pray to the Father, through the Son, in the Holy Spirit.

  1. For the Pope, the bishops and all who teach the faith, that the Spirit of truth may guide their words, let us pray to the Lord.
  2. For theologians, catechists and teachers, that they may help others to know and love the mystery of God, let us pray to the Lord.
  3. For all creation, the work of God’s wisdom, that we may care for it as good stewards, let us pray to the Lord.
  4. For those who suffer, that through their afflictions they may grow in patience, hope and the love poured into their hearts by the Holy Spirit, let us pray to the Lord.
  5. For our families and friendships, that they may reflect the communion of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, let us pray to the Lord.
  6. For our beloved dead, that they may share for ever in the life of the Trinity, let us pray to the Lord.

Priest: God of truth and love, hear the prayers of your people. Guide us by your Spirit into all truth, and bring us to the glory of your Son. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Set 3: Year A, “God so loved the world”

Priest: God so loved the world that he gave his only Son. Trusting in that love, let us pray.

  1. For the Church, that she may show the world the merciful and gracious face of God, let us pray to the Lord.
  2. For peace among nations and reconciliation in divided communities, that the God of love and peace may be with them, let us pray to the Lord.
  3. For those who do not believe or who have lost their faith, that they may come to know the love of God revealed in Jesus Christ, let us pray to the Lord.
  4. For the sick, the lonely and the grieving, that they may know the grace of Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, let us pray to the Lord.
  5. For all of us gathered here, that our lives may give glory to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, let us pray to the Lord.
  6. For the faithful departed, that they may have eternal life, let us pray to the Lord.
