[stations_of_cross]About the Stations of the Cross
The Stations of the Cross (also called the Way of the Cross or Via Crucis) is a devotion that commemorates Jesus Christ’s last day on Earth as a man. The 14 stations represent the path Jesus walked on the way to His crucifixion.
History of the Stations of the Cross
This devotion began in Jerusalem, with early Christians walking the path that Jesus walked to His death. When Muslims captured Jerusalem and it became too dangerous for pilgrims, Europeans created their own versions, allowing the faithful to spiritually walk with Jesus on His final journey.
When to Pray the Stations of the Cross
While especially meaningful during Lent and particularly on Good Friday, Catholics and many other Christians pray the Stations of the Cross throughout the year as a way to honor Christ’s sacrifice and contemplate His love.
